Dr. Bawumia and Samira to refund all allowances paid to the Second Lady

The office of the Second Lady in consultation with the office of the Vice President are set to refund all allowances paid to the second Lady since 2017 to 2021.

In a statement, the Second lady, H.E Samira Bawumia said she and her husband H.E. the Vice President, will refund all allowances paid to her since 2017 and will not accept any monies allocated to her pursuant to the recommendations of the Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu led committee, as approved by Parliament on 6th January 2021.

She took the decision after the First Lady Her Excellency Rebecca Akufo-Addo rejected the Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu committee’s recommendations for payment of salary to Presidential spouses and her subsequent decision to refund all allowances paid to her from 2017 to date.

With reference to the payment of allowances schedules, the Second Lady is expected to refund an amount of GH¢887,482 to the state as allowances she received.

In a statement signed by the Senior Aide to the Second Lady Kwame Twum, Esq said, Mrs. Bawumia continues to be committed to the service of the nation; to deliver humanitarian interventions and initiatives in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment.
