The chief of Mafi-Dedukope, Togbe Dedu IV of a private name Atteh Vincent in the Volta Region has been destooled by the stool father together with his elders following series of alleged misconduct, gross disrespect and abuse of power among many towards the royal stool.
In a statement from the office of the stool father, Zikpuitor William Ahortor, Togbe Dedu IV who was enstooled way back in 2014/2015 has been removed from office as the chief of the area on numerous grounds.
According to the statement from office of the stool father, Togbe Dedu IV known as Atteh William was removed from office following some eleven different activities he has engaged himself into. The elders together with the stool father has taken the title off him based on the following; Gross disrespect towards the stool father, threat of murder of the family of the stool father, embezzlement of community funds, constant struggles and conflicts with subjects, falsehood of registration of the Dedu family land, demolishing of peoples houses and vague promises, false impersonation to another stool, autonomous declaration of switch of district, use of communal property without thorough consultation leading to conflicts (stone query), the scheme of dividing us in other to loot the communal assets, autonomous power and it’s abuses and authoritarian demonstrations leading to tribal clashes.
The elders of Mafi-Dedukope expresses worry in the behaviors of Atteh Vincent (Togbe Dedu IV) by saying “Communities needed chiefs to steer affairs of development of the entire populace. Chiefs are respected in every community for their truthfulness, faithfulness, kindness, honesty and above all their ability to unite everyone. Our case has been the very opposite for which I think we shall write a new history and twist our culture if I do not rise to the occasion.”
The stool father noted that, he has therefore decided that since his stay is doing them more harm than good, he signed him off the stool and a new chief shall soon be enstooled. He again said, Atteh Vincent shall therefore by no means act in such office of a chief henceforth. The elders and the stool father has called on the public to desist from engaging in any business with him in such capacity as chief.
“Anyone who has an engagement with him after this notice is doing so at his/her own expense. He is required to return all documents regarding legal issues on the land and all properties belonging to the community to me. If by this notice anyone has entered an agreement with him in a capacity of Dedu (IV), I am not to blame for the outcome. That not-withstanding I call on all who might have engagement with him to approach the stool for consideration. I call on all elders of our land, the youth, women, children and the entire community to come together as a people and build a healthy and strong community for generations yet unborn. The divisor has been taken off. Let us come together as one big family and move the community forward.” They announced.

DESTOOLMENT OF TOGBE DEDU (IV)
I, Zikpuitor William Ahortor write to inform you of the destoolment of Togbe Dedu (IV) of a private name Atteh Vincent. I enstooled him in the year 2014 /2015 but has decided to reverse my decision due to the following gross misconduct of the said Atteh Vincent.
- GROSS DISRESPECT TOWARDS THE STOOL FATHER
He has shown a gross disrespect for me and the elders of the land. He never consult me before taking very prominent and sensitive decisions. Most of his decisions are not in the interest of the growth of the entire community. I hear most of such decisions at general meetings. Many of such issues are told to me by others. The disturbing part of this is that, many turn to blame me if the decisions do not order well with the populace. In many cases, if such concealed ideas need be explained and they turn to ask me I am always slapped to the face since I never have details of such issues and programs. Many do question my potency of being the stool father in this issue.
- THREAT OF MURDER OF THE FAMILY OF THE STOOL FATHER
He (Atteh Vincent) told me that I, including all my family members shall die one after the other. Such saying became evident as many deaths were recorded in the family in chain. I together with my brothers decided to call him to explain to us the reasons for such choice of words at Togbe Agbodemegbe (V) palace. He failed to turn out on the first occasion with the reason that he was busy. He (Atteh Vincent) gave us another date and time at same venue but still failed to turn out. Till date he failed to come to me and explain why he took the path he decided to take. This does not only show disrespect to me but also disregarded the authority of the Togbe Agbodemegbe (V) stool who played a significant role in his enstoolment process.
- EMBEZZLEMENT OF COMMUNITY FUNDS
Atteh Vincent (formerly Togbe Dedu (IV) has a very brave heart which brought a lot of economic boosting activities to the land. One could think that, these activities will accelerate the lives and development of the Dedu family. The opposite is rather the issue. Atteh Vincent has claimed everything for himself. Any time he is called upon by the elders and the community to render accounts, what was presented is always seen to be far from the truth. The little he tried to account for has never been seen and known how it has been utilized. Many people raised the red flag of suspicions. They thought I have condone and connived with him for such thievery and scrupulous acts. It is on records that he sold or leased lands to people without my notice. He gave land to some company for ostrich and pig farms without my knowledge. Terms and conditions involved in the agreement are known to only him. This has never been our tradition.
- CONSTANT STRUGGLES AND CONFLICTS WITH SUBJECTS
Since his enstoolment, there has been many struggles between him and prominent and known natives of the land. He stopped many people from carrying out development projects on the land. Once he has not given order, no one is allowed to build or do anything on the land. It is on record that he told a native of the land to never carry out a building project and further went on to direct the person to go to Ningo to build. This act is alien to our custom and tenants of our culture. To me, the development of communities is a collective responsibility of the people. The community needs everyone’s involvement for its growth.
- FALSEHOOD OF REGISTRATION OF THE DEDU FAMILY LAND
He (Atteh Vincent) lied to me and the entire community that one billion old Ghana cedis could register the entire Dedu family land completely. Since his enstoolment, he engaged in much economic activities beyond the said one billion Ghana cedis. I do not know how the funds are disbursed. Neither do I know how far the processes on the registration of our lands processed have been. I do not believe something genuinely is done and that not-withstanding anything that was done is fictitious and have a parochial interest.
- DEMOLISHING OF POEPLES HOUSES AND VAGUE PROMISES
My attention has been drawn to some houses Atteh Vincent pulled down with the promise of building new ones. Such projects are yet to see the day of light. He promised to build public toilets at Mafi-Dedukope, Mafi-Kpeyibor and Mafi-Dudevi. The community is still looking on in despair as to what happens to these promises. Atteh Vincent has created a huge manhole in the public Junior High School in the name of building toilet for the school. That project too was abandoned living it serve as a death trap to the pupils in the school. All calls to continue or close the holes to avert a predicament befalling us has fallen on his death ears.
- FALSE IMPERSONATION TO ANOTHER STOOL
The then Togbe Dedu (IV) has made himself the right hand chief of Nene Aadegbor Ngmongnowuyaa Kwesi Animlie. Until now, the Dedu family are Ewes and hail from the Volta Region. The coronation of Togbe Dedu (IV) was endorsed and witnesses by chiefs from Mafi land. His new stand shows more loyalty to the Osudoku Traditional Area than the Mafi Traditional Area. He displayed this in his gross disrespect to the chiefs and queens of the Mafi land. I have never by any means understand why he (Atteh Vincent) has decided to bite the very fingers that fed him. I cannot recall seeing his new boss at his coronation. This is bringing a perpetual disgrace and inferiority complex on us as a people and for that matter the entire Mafi land.
- AUTONOMOUS DECLARATION OF SWITCH OF DISTRICT
Atteh Vincent has gone into secret deals and trying to move our loyalty to the Volta Region to Greater Accra. He started preaching this news that he need to join the Greater Accra region. We had never objected to his quest but advised that broad consultations be made before any action is taken. At the back of this, he has done who knows the deal to work with the Shai Osudoku District. All contracts he does now is constructed with the new District. He has taken this decision so he could continue with many of his illegalities. The royalties that we do pay to the North Tongu has diverted to the other district by his sole power.
- USE OF COMMUNAL PROPERTY WITHOUT THOROUGH CONSULTATION LEADING TO CONFLICTS (STONE QUERY)
When I thought I have seen it all came a stone query project which he claimed to be the contractor. His initial organization of the community and the manner of communication of the project promised huge fortunes to meet the family soon. We have all agreed to set up a committee to draft a memorandum of understanding (MOU) before the project starts, but I was surprise to hear that the project has commenced. It took the elders and the entire community by surprise to hear that the project has commended. All things showed clearly that this one too shall not be different from the numerous deceits and looting of the community resources. The worst is the consultation fees he has organized the elders several times to discuss too has never been received. As I write the community never know who are in charge of the project. How many trips made so far is known to only the wind. Our resources are fast languishing without seeing its reflection in the lives of the people and the communities at large. Enough is enough, I cannot sit down and throw my hands in despair. The project is on course but I do not know the terms of engagement and agreements signed, with whom and on what.
- THE SCHEME OF DIVIDING US IN OTHER TO LOOT THE COMMUNAL ASSETS
The strength of every community is the unity of its people. Our family ties got deteriorated during and after his coronation. We were divided into groups by his actions and inactions. Gone are the days where we do virtually everything together as people. He has finally decided to divide Dedukope and its sister communities from Mafi-Luta. Though his enticing words almost swept most of us falling for his schemes, I have realized that this could be the last straw of destroying the long lusting legacies our forefathers left for us. The Dedu family occupied communities such as Mafi-Dedukoe, Mafi-Luta, Mafi-Kpeyibor, Mafi-Dudevi and Glokope. We are connected with same umbilical cord and any attempt to tear us apart is considered a step in the wrong direction.
- AUTONOMOUS POWER AND IT’S ABUSES
In his desperation for autonomous power and absolute rule over the land, he has organized the individual family heads from some families to sign a document purported to give him his long standing desire. When I intercepted the information, what he told me concerning the said document was different from what he told my brother. Some family heads who were interrogated also narrated different story on same document. I therefore have a suspicion of something fishy in the document. I asked him to present a copy of the documents the family heads signed but he declined. I do not know what exactly is in that document that he cannot show to me, his stool father. If this is a proof of his shaking trust in me, then I doubt why he still sits on my laps.
- AUTHORITARIAN DEMONSTRATIONS LEADING TO TRIBAL CLASHES
The last straw of his shameful fight was with citizens over the Dedukope Information Centre. He once came to me that he wanted to cease the machines and change its location. I advised him not to take that path he wanted to trend. He disregarded my advice and went ahead to do according to what he wanted to do at night. It took God’s intervention that life was not loosed in this situation. The worst of this situation is the involvement of a person purposed to be a native doctor from another community to aid him finish what he started. The case is still in the hands of police and chiefs from other communities. He has open doors on our vulnerability, our strengths and weaknesses which exposed us to our neighboring community. The people from the other community wanted to retaliate and no one shall tell you what outcome we could be talking about now. The Dedu family has narrowly indulge the news of involving in tribal war because of him. The damage this happening has on the community if not irreparable then it will take years to restore self-image.
