4 pupils, and a teacher battling life threatening injuries as school building collapsed on them
Four basic school pupils, along with a teacher and three members of the community, are currently battling life-threatening injuries after a school building collapsed. The injured individuals are receiving treatment at the Adeiso District Hospital in the Eastern Region.
These eight victims were attending the ongoing Domeabra Zonal Inter School Sports event in the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern Region. According to John Priestly Badu, the Domeabra Zonal Vice Chairman, the sporting event was taking place at the Sukrung Awemfi D A primary grounds when heavy rain forced them to seek shelter in a dilapidated school building.

At around 4:30 pm, the collapse occurred, affecting three classrooms designated for classes one to three. Teachers and residents immediately initiated rescue efforts, and the injured were swiftly transported to the Adeiso Health Centre for emergency medical care.
John Priestly Badu expressed disappointment that despite having repeatedly written to the Member of Parliament (MP) and the District Chief Executive (DCE) to address the poor condition of the school, no satisfactory action had been taken.
“We have been conducting our sports activities this week, and when it started raining, they sought shelter in that dilapidated classroom. Unfortunately, it collapsed on them. We have made multiple appeals to the MP and DCE to fix the school, but we have not received a favorable response,” he stated.
The Gyasehene Edward Kotey and Mbrantihene Edem Atiemo are currently present at the Adeiso District Hospital, supporting the victims during this critical situation. As of the time of reporting at 6 pm on February 14, the individuals injured in the incident continue to receive care at the hospital.
