85% of streetlights in the Biggest Cities of Ghana don’t work but… – Bright Simons

The vice President of IMANI Africa, Mr. Bright Simons has criticised Government for voting to spend over $200m on surveillance cameras even though 85% of streetlights in the country’s biggest cities do not work.

Mr. Bright Simons in a tweet on 8th November, 2020 indicated that, Policymaking & public spending can be really intriguing in Ghana because, 85% of streetlights in the biggest cities of the country don’t work but the Government  rather vote to spend more than $200m on surveillance cameras.

In a tweet, Mr. Bright Simons wrote;

Policymaking & public spending can be really intriguing in Ghana. 85% of streetlights in the biggest cities don’t work but the Govt had rather vote $200m+ for surveillance cameras. Soon, they might have to add infrared as you need light for ordinary cameras to work well.

@Edemkojo1999; You are right about the street lights not working but truth be told I’ve seen especially on the spintex road some of these street lights being fixed. As to whether we will be able to keep them on from time to time is also another matter.

@ebenezerkm; How can budget allocation to ministry of interior be moved to energy to address street lighting? Have you stop paying ECG for electricity because you have free water from GWCL? Development is not linear.

@MajoyGundadow; Looting the state is paramount here and not necessarily providing infrastructure for the common good. Even a moron in a hurry will foresee what you just highlighted but those who pick dimes from this government will come raining insults at you.
