About 20,152 pupils in Nkwanta North District don’t have desks – GNECC

The Oti regional coordinator of Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) Mr. Ernest Kwame Adade has disclosed that, about 20,152 pupils in Nkwanta North District did not have desks as of 2022 and as such hampers smooth and effective learning in schools in the area.
This statement, he made during the 2023 Global Action Week for Education marked in Jasikan in Oti Region.
“One major development that drives the growth of education is the provision of school
infrastructure. Generally, most schools do not have adequate infrastructure and some have dilapidated infrastructure. This is a typical case of schools such as Nanankor, Kajakor, Dzolu, Owie and many more in Jasikan Municipality.
Again, data available indicates that, about 20,152 pupils in Nkwanta North district in Oti region did not have desk as of 2022.
He said, the findings of CSO’s independent audit on education infrastructure conducted by GNECC in 2021, states that, “typically, even for schools with some infrastructure, these are often not disability friendly.”
“We are also very aware that there are some schools still under trees in Oti region which adds up to the over 5,000 schools under trees, nationally.”
Me. Ernest Kwame Adade admonished the government to commit to the 21st-century proclamation that says “no child must be left behind”, and put in necessary measures to provide adequate and proper infrastructure for basic schools in Oti region and Ghana by extension.
