Access to National Children’s Library launched by Dr. Bawumia costs GH¢500 per child – Kofi Asare revealed

The Executive Director for Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare has disclosed the approved cost behind accessing the recently opened public library (National Children’s Library) located at the Airport by the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The opened public library is operated by Ghana Library Authority with taxpayer’s money.

Educating the general public on what it takes to access the newly opened library, Mr. Kofi Asare let out that “He wanted to visit the National Children’s Library at Airport” which was “recently opened by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia” and “operated by the Ghana Library Authority with our taxes.”

However, he was told to pay a fee. “The officials tell me he has to pay GHC 500 a year to access the public facility.”

Further, Mr. Kofi Asare disclosed that he “Inquired further on whether children from nearby Nima, Maamobi, New Town, etc who attend public schools can access free…”

To his surprise, “The official said NO; every child aged 4-17 must pay GHC 500 annually to access the public library.”

“That’s the equivalent of 50 years Capitation Grant,” Kofi Asare got shocked.

“Public school students must not pay to access public libraries, whether located in Alavanyo or Airport,” Kofi Asare educates the public.

He called on the Education Minister to clarify the insights given to him. “Wofa Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum must hear this,” he added.
