Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the current Minister for Energy, Ghana has called on Africa to continue to utilize all its energy resources and establish Africa Energy Bank.

At the first panel session of the 2023 Africa Energy Week held in Cape Town, South Africa, Dr. Matthew Prempeh shared his view on the topic “Global Energy Security; The Imperative of African Energy Development”.

Contributing, he said “Africa must continue to utilize all its energy resources without holding back, as a key step to addressing energy poverty.

“Technology Transfer, Infrastructural Development, and most importantly, Financing are key ingredients to achieving our respective net-zero targets.”

Again, he “called for the establishment of an African Energy Bank which will be the financing citadel for Africa’s energy projects in the wake of the transition.”

“As insightful as these discussions were, in terms of the nuances and perspectives from colleague Ministers, I am hopeful that our quest for a just and an equitable transition very much remain on course,” Dr. Matthew Prempeh.

Later, he, the Minister for Energy met Senior Officials of the United States Department of Energy with deliberations focusing on a potential collaboration in the nuclear energy space.”
