Akufo-Addo borrowed GH¢140 billion, projected Ghana’s economy to 66 billion – John Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party government to have borrowed GH¢140 billion as against GH¢54 billion during his presidency between 2012 and 2016.

In a statement, the Leader and Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama disclosed that, in 2012, the size of Ghana’s economy was 41.6 billion dollars and in 2016, on his watch as president of the Republic of Ghana, it was 54.5 billion dollars – a nominal change of 13 billion dollars in 4 years.

According to him, this year, 2020, on the watch of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as president, Ghana’s economy is projected to be somewhere 66 billion dollars, which means the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in four years changed the size of the economy by 11 billion dollars – note in 4 years; 13 billion dollars under his (John Dramani Mahama’s) watch and 11 billion dollars under Akufo-Addo’s NPP. “This is what the data says, and it is verifiable. You can examine the data for yourselves.” He explained.

“This government has meanwhile borrowed GH¢140 billion as against GH¢54 billion during my presidency. ” He added.
