Akufo-Addo prioritizes resolution of tribal conflict in Bawku

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has restated that resolving the longstanding tribal conflict in Bawku, in the Upper East Region, is a top priority of his government’s national security agenda.

Also, the President noted that significant efforts are being made to achieve a lasting solution to the crisis, which has claimed many lives over the years. Speaking at this year’s May Day celebrations in Bolgatanga, the President reassured the Secretary General of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, that the Bawku conflict remains a high priority for his administration.

The President further expressed his desire to see lasting peace in Bawku before the end of his term in office, stating that nothing would give him greater pleasure. He also noted that the security situation in the area has been beefed up, and those who flout the law will be held accountable.

The President cautioned those who intend to destabilize the peace and security of Ghana that the majority of Ghanaians committed to democracy will resist them. President Akufo-Addo oversaw the resolution of the long-standing Dagbon crisis during his first term, which brought the Abudus and Andanis together.

“May God grant me the wisdom to achieve that outcome.”
