Allegations of British nationality surrounding Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia

Sam Pee Yalley, former ambassador of Ghana to India, has recently made claims suggesting that the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, holds British nationality.

These allegations gained significant attention when a record from the UK government’s Companies House emerged, seemingly supporting Yalley’s claim.

The record in question pertains to Dr. Bawumia’s tenure as the director of the Ghana International Bank, a subsidiary of the Bank of Ghana in London, UK.

According to the record, the Ghana International Bank remains active in the UK, but Dr. Bawumia resigned from his position as director.

His appointment took place on October 18, 2006, and he officially resigned on April 15, 2009.

Notably, the record listed Dr. Bawumia’s residential address as House No. 48, 6th Estate Road, Kanda Estates, Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana. It also indicated his occupation as a banker and his nationality as British.

In response to these claims, Dr. Gideon Boako, the spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Bawumia, has vehemently denied the allegations of British citizenship.

Dr. Boako took to his official Facebook page to address the issue, asserting that Dr. Bawumia has only ever held Ghanaian citizenship throughout his life and that the claims made against him are baseless and should be disregarded.

In his Facebook post, Dr. Boako stated, “We wish to state in clear terms that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia does not hold British citizenship and has never held British or any other citizenship other than being a Ghanaian. The allegation should be treated with the contempt it deserves.”
