Anlo SHS wins Volta Region edition of Energy Commission’s Renewable Energy Challenge

The Anlo Senior High School has emerged the winner of the Volta Region edition of Senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge.

The competition which featured six (6) participating schools saw Tsito Senior High Technical School emerged the first runner up and St Paul’s SHS the second runner up.

The Energy Commission of Ghana in partnership with Bui Power Authority has held its Senior High Schools (SHS) Renewable Energy Challenge in Ho for some selected second cycle institutions in the Volta Region.

The competition seeks to develop research skills students as well as to promote technological innovation in renewable energy and its efficiency. It is also to instill in students a passion for solving renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change-related issues.

Six participating schools, namely Have and Anlo Technical Institute, Ola, St Paul’s and Anlo Senior High Schools and the Tsito Senior High Technical School exhibited their renewable energy projects.

The National Integrated Science Coordinator of the Ghana Education Service, Emmanuel Oman-Okoe said plans are underway to extend the program to junior high schools and was hopeful that the competition will enable students put into practice what they are taught in the classroom.

He disclosed that all the 16 regions will be sprint into two zones , the southern and northern zones and the three best schools from each zone will participate in the national championship on October 15 this year at the International Conference Center. The Director of Finance at Bui power Authority, Jemima Fayer said the Bui Power Authority has identified some potentials in the youth as far as renewable energy is concerned hence the reason the Authority funded the competition.

She encouraged the youths especially females to get into renewable energy for a better future. Certificates and five hundred Ghana Cedis were awarded participants and their tutors.
