Former Black Stars player and captain, Asamoah Gyan has joined the ongoing commentary around the world following Ghana’s defeat in their opening match against Portugal in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament.
Asamoah Gyan believes that the decision made by the referee was a quick one and that the referee should’ve done his checks properly before awarding that penalty since this is a very important tournament.
The renowned player, Asamoah Gyan made this statement in an interview with Super Sports after the Ghana – Portugal game.
He said “The penalty for me, I don’t agree because it was a soft touch although Ronaldo was a bit early…. The referee should have at least checked the VAR before making the decision because I think it was too soft.”
Gyan is not the only one who sees it this way, lots of sports analysts both locally and internationally have also made their criticisms on the referee’s penalty decision as unfair to the Ghanaian side.
The Ghana Black Stars was defeated by Portugal in their opening group stage game by 2:3 goal.
