Attorney General updates on journalist Ahmed Suale’s Murder

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has provided an update on the murder case of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

According to Mr. Dame, no docket suitable for prosecution or action has been submitted to his office regarding the investigation.

Initially, four suspects were detained to aid in the investigation. However, they were later released on police enquiry bail due to the inability of eyewitnesses to identify them.

Ahmed Suale’s tragic murder occurred on January 16, 2019, in Madina. He was attacked by two individuals riding a motorbike with a concealed license plate.

During a parliamentary session, Mr. Dame addressed the unresolved status of Suale’s murder, along with other pending cases. He stated that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is handling the investigation. To date, no prosecutable docket or document related to the murder has been presented to his office.

Upon assuming the role of Attorney General, Mr. Dame received a courtesy visit from the former Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, on March 29, 2021. During the meeting, concerns were raised regarding the lack of progress in resolving the Suale case and other similar cases.

Mr. Dame inquired about the status of the investigation and requested a report from the Director General of CID, who duly complied with the request.
