BenEssien Movement has issued a statement on suspension of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) SRC/L.NUGS/GRASAG/JCRC Elections 2024.

BenEssien Movement (Benjamin Essien Davis – SRC Presidential candidate and Benedicta Owusuaa Opoku – SRC Vice Presidential candidate) writes to update the students and the entire University community after the Cape Coast High Court laid injunction on UCC 2023/2024 SRC/L.NUGS/GRASAG/JCRC Elections.

The BenEssien Movement in their update called on supporters and the entire student’s body to remain calm and resolute in these trying times. “Let us remain confident and keep hopes in the BenEssien Movement.”

“The BenEssien Movement has taken notice of a release from the Office of Dean of Students today, 28th June, 2024, suspending this year’s SRC/LNUGS/JCRC/GRASAG elections until further notice due to an injunction placed on the election by the Cape Coast High Court as a result of a writ filed by one Yahaya Osman.”

“We write to share in the disappointment of aspirants and the entire students body due to the postponement of the election at a time a lot of resources have gone into the elections.”

“What is more worrying is the fact that in as much as we respect the right of any person to seek judgment on an issue in court, we believe no matter the situation, this issue would have been resolved amicably using the internally laid down procedures on election dispute resolution in the Students Handbook rather than going to the law court to seek judgment.”

“We also state without any shred of doubt that the BenEssien Movement is not behind this injunction order that has been placed on the election and the movement has nothing to do with same. Neither the injunction application nor the writ was filed by the BenEssien Movement as being speculated.”

“We entreat all our supporters and the entire students’ body to disregard the malicious attempts being made by some people to associate the injunction with the BenEssien Movement. We believe that at the right time, truth will prevail.”

“One other issue worthy of mention regarding this injunction order is the suspension of the
JCRC/L.NUGS/GRASAG elections as well.”

“It is our considered opinion that since the writ filed and the injunction sought, per our information, pertain to the SRC elections only, the JCRC, GRASAG and L.NUGS elections would have been allowed to go on as scheduled.”

“We therefore humbly appeal to the university management to take a second look at that.”

“In conclusion, we call on all our supporters and the entire student’s body to remain calm and resolute in these trying times. Let us remain confident and keep hopes in the BenEssien Movement.”
