Berekum SHS headmaster asked to step aside amid allegations of charging unauthorized fees

Mr. Afi Yaw Stephen, the Headmaster of Berekum Senior High School, has been asked to step aside pending an investigation into allegations of charging unauthorized fees from incoming Form One students.
The Ghana Education Service Management has taken note of the alleged unauthorized fees being collected by Mr. Afi Yaw Stephen, and a comprehensive list of the charges has been made public.
The fees include an Entrance Fee of GHC 40.00, PTA Fee of GHC 300.00, Petro Fee of GHC 20.00, Borla Fee of GHC 20.00, Motivation Fee of GHC 50.00, Lunch Bag Fee of GHC 50.00, School Jacket Fee of GHC 200.00, House Dues of GHC 50.00, Registration Fees of GHC 80.00, and SRC Dues of GHC 50.00.
As a result of these serious allegations, Mr. Afi Yaw Stephen has been requested to step aside from his position as Headmaster, effective from 7th December 2023. This decision aims to facilitate an impartial investigation into the matter, ensuring transparency and fairness.
During his absence, he has been instructed to hand over all responsibilities to the Berekum Municipal Director of Education. The Director will assume oversight responsibility for the school until the investigation is concluded.
The Ghana Education Service is committed to upholding the principles of integrity and fairness within the education system. The investigation will thoroughly examine the allegations against Mr. Afi Yaw Stephen, and appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings.
