The Ghana Black Stars players have  received $20,000 appearance fee each for African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021) tournament.

According to the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Henry Asante, the players were paid an appearance fee of 20,000 dollars each.

Speaking in an interview with Star FM monitored by Coverghana.com.gh, he explained that, the players didn’t earn any bonus because they did not win a single game in the AFCON 2021 tournament held in Cameroon.

The Black Stars were defeated at the Group stage of the African Cup of Nations. They were in a Group  C fextures with Garbon, Comoros and Morocco.

They played their first match with Morocco where they lost by one goal to nill. The Black Stars played a 1:1 draw with Garbon in their second match and were defeated by Comoros in their third match by 2:3.

The abysmal performances of the Stars led to their early exit of the AFCON tournament. But, as a tradition, each player is entitled to an appearance fee from the Government of Ghana.

Earlier, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has decided to part ways with Black Stars Coach Milovan Rajevac leading to their poor performances.

This follows the receipt of the Technical Report from the Coach, the Medical Report and the Report from the Management Committee following Ghana’s early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 tournament.

The Executive Council after considering the three reports and engagements with key stakeholders has decided to end its relationship with Coach Milovan Rajevac and also decided that the Black Stars Management Committee be reconstituted.

Ghana’s next assignment is a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 playoff against Nigeria in March 2022.
