Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, Auditor-General has released an official document dated January 14, 2026, after conducting a Nationwide Payroll Audit of Staff of the Mechanised Payroll. The audit uncovered a tall list of staff unaccounted for in its system.

Out of the six thousand, two hundred and sixty-three (6,263) personnel that could not be accounted for during the headcount and verification exercise at the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), the Ministry of Finance was reported as not being able to account for 49 staff under the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD), and the Ghana Education Service (GES) was reported as having 3,120, the highest number of “Unaccounted for” staff.

Based on the report, CAGD recommended that there should be an immediate deletion of the 6,263 personnel from the payroll as summarised and released in the official document.
