Cale Douglas Makar is a famous Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman for the National Hockey League (NHL)’s Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche selected him with the fourth overall choice in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Makar, a Calgary native, began his minor-hockey career with the Crowchild Blackhawks before joining the Northwest Calgary Athletic Association (NWCAA) Bruins at the Bantam level in 2011.
Cale Douglas Makar also played bantam for the Calgary Flames before advancing to the NWCAA Stampeders. Makar was picked in the eighth round, 164th overall, at the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft by the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League (WHL).
Makar returned to the Calgary Flames for the minor midget level in 2014-15, leading the team in scoring with 23 points in 34 league games, earning the team’s Most Valuable Player award and selection to the Alberta Midget Hockey League First All-Star Team.
Makar joined the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) at the end of the season as an affiliate player to keep his NCAA eligibility, earning five points in three regular season games. Makar finished third among defensemen in scoring with 7 points in 20 games, assisting the Bandits to the finals.
