Catholic priest takes a wife; says God didn’t make a mistake creating man and woman
Kenyan Catholic priest has taken the unusual step of getting married.
In a departure from the traditional expectations of the Catholic Church, an ordained Kenyan priest has chosen to enter into matrimony. Reverend Father Edwin Gathang’i Waiguru has joined a splinter group known as the Catholic Charismatic church, which allows for married clergy.
The wedding ceremony, officiated by Bishop Patrick Mulau of the Kirinyaga Charismatic Church, took place on Sunday in Kiambu county, located just north of Nairobi, the capital city.
Standing beside his bride, Margaret Wanjira Githui, Father Waiguru expressed his conviction that it is possible to serve God while also having a family and a loving wife.
He emphasized that God’s creation of man and woman was not an error and that it is not good for anyone to be alone.
Father Waiguru explained that his decision to marry stemmed from his experiences preaching in North and South America, where he felt a deep desire to enter into the institution of marriage and have a family.
Upon his return to Kenya, he chose to solemnize his union in a traditional ceremony. The couple has been blessed with two children.
Subsequently, Father Waiguru underwent reordination as a Charismatic priest, thus aligning his religious calling with his marital status. He expressed profound satisfaction in fulfilling his priestly vocation.
“I am overjoyed. To my wife, I vow to love you always,” he declared.
According to NTV reports, hundreds of the couple’s loved ones gathered to bear witness to this extraordinary ceremony, which defied the conventional expectations of the Catholic Church.
