Former President of Ghana, John Mahama, has called for prayers for Christian Atsu, a professional footballer caught in a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Hayat. Atsu, along with some of his Hatayspor teammates and the club’s sporting director, Taner Savut, remains missing as search and rescue operations continue.

Mahama took to Twitter to express his concern, saying, “Let’s continue to pray for our brother, Christian Atsu, and his club director. The city of Hayat is in the region affected by the earthquake. Let’s continue to pray that God spares their lives.” Atsu recently scored a crucial goal for Hatayspor in a victory against KasımpaÅŸa S.K.

The earthquake has so far claimed over 1,300 lives and left over 6,000 individuals injured, with a significant aftershock of 7.5 magnitudes also hitting the region hours later, being felt in Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan.
