Adidome, Volta Region – The Dufia of Adidome, Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman V, has delivered a comprehensive 2025 Christmas and New Year 2026 message to the people of Adidome, Toh/Tovie communities, the entire Mafi Traditional Area, and the general public, reflecting on the year’s challenges, achievements, and prospects for the future.
Speaking from Zzembe Palace, Fiato – Adidome, the chief described 2025 as a demanding year marked by social, cultural, religious, economic, political, and legal engagements. He reiterated the core responsibilities of traditional leadership, including presiding over customs, mediating disputes, advocating development, representing communities at the national level, and safeguarding land and communal resources.
Strong Condemnation of Ritual Murders
Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman V strongly condemned recent ritual murder incidents reported around Adidome, describing them as horrifying, barbaric, and completely alien to the culture of the Mafi people. He emphasized that the pursuit of quick wealth and power through such acts is a grave violation of human dignity and has no place in traditional religion or cultural practice.
He noted that chiefs in the Mafi Traditional Area unanimously denounced the acts and took swift action, leading to the arrest of suspects and their prosecution under the law.
Celebration of Culture and Tradition
Despite these setbacks, the Dufia highlighted several positive cultural milestones achieved during the year. Festivals such as Dzawuwu, Hogbetsotso, and traditional rites, including the cleansing of black stools, were successfully observed across the area.
He particularly cited the purification of the Toh/Tovie Clan Black Stool and the Annual Dzawuwu Festival at Mafi Awlime Wukpo, which attracted participants from several communities, including Adidome, Kpogede, Aveta, Sasekpe, and Tsakpo. Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman V presided over the event, describing it as a unifying and successful celebration of heritage.
The chief also lamented the gradual distortion of the Hogbetsotso Festival traditions, stressing the need to preserve the historical rituals that define the identity of the Mafi people.
Dispute Resolution and Judicial Success
On conflict resolution, the Togbe Kwasinyi Traditional Arbitration Tribunal recorded notable success, settling 27 cases during the year. These included disputes related to marriage, divorce, social abuse, sexual misconduct, debt recovery, and land ownership.
Remarkably, two high-profile cases were withdrawn from the Circuit Court and amicably resolved at the Zzembe Palace, with official reports submitted back to the courts – a rare achievement that earned commendation from judicial authorities.
Development Challenges and Prospects
Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman V acknowledged that chieftaincy disputes and rival installations have stalled development efforts, particularly in Adidome and across the Mafi Traditional Area. Nonetheless, he disclosed ongoing engagements with the Regional Minister on key projects, including:
- Fencing the Adidome Government Hospital, Police Station, and Market
Facelifting the Adidome Market - Establishing an industry to create employment and serve as a legacy development project
- A proposed Solar industry by SOLAR AQUA, expected to generate over 3,000 jobs if negotiations succeed
- He expressed optimism that ongoing land litigation affecting development projects in some Tovie settlements would soon be resolved, opening the door for infrastructural growth.
National and Social Issues
Commenting on national affairs, the Dufia praised the new government for easing the cost of living and restoring hope within its first year in office.
Locally, however, he raised concern about rising social vices among the youth, including fraud, substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, vandalism, theft, and robbery – largely attributed to unemployment. He assured residents that measures would be introduced to curb these challenges.
Call for Cleanliness and Civic Responsibility
The chief urged residents to renew their commitment to sanitation and communal labour, stressing that Adidome, as a district capital, must be kept clean. He appealed to the District Chief Executive to operationalize existing public toilets, construct more facilities, and improve feeder roads, especially the stretch from Methodist through Dzogbe to the Bame area.
Message of Hope and Faith
Reflecting on the hardships of the year – including deaths, divisions, broken homes, and economic struggles – Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman V called for unity and patience. Drawing inspiration from Psalm 126, he expressed confidence that sorrow would give way to joy.
He assured the people that 2026 would be a year of restoration, declaring that God would repay them for lost years and renew their fortunes, families, and livelihoods.

The Dufia concluded by wishing all residents a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Prosperous New Year, praying for peace, unity, and divine blessings in the year ahead.
