CIHEAM BARI announces Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for brilliant but needy students in Aveyime-Battor

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: TERTIARY EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT (TUITION FEES ONLY)

The International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM Bari), in collaboration with the Aveyime Development Association (ADA), has introduced a Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme aimed at supporting brilliant but financially challenged students from the Aveyime-Battor community in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

This initiative forms part of the broader efforts under the “Strengthening Agrifood Ecosystems in Ghana in Partnership with the Italian Private System (AREA Africa) – AID 013210” project, which seeks to empower local communities through education, capacity building, and sustainable development.

The scholarship is designed specifically for tertiary students from the Aveyime-Battor community who demonstrate academic excellence, commitment to community development, and financial need. Through this support, CIHEAM Bari and ADA aim to expand educational opportunities, promote human capital development, and contribute to the long-term socioeconomic advancement of the community.

Background

The programme is part of the Italian international cooperation initiative, developed within a balanced public-private partnership framework, under the Mattei Plan for Africa. It specifically falls within the Action for the Strengthening of Agri-Food Ecosystems in Africa (AREA), co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI). CIHEAM Bari serves as the knowledge partner and implementing body for the public component, while BFI acts as the private partner.

The CIHEAM Bari (International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies) is an
intergovernmental organization founded in 1962, composed of 13 Mediterranean member states. Its
mission is to promote sustainable agriculture, food security, and rural development in the Mediterranean
region through education, research, cooperation, and technical assistance.

The project “Strengthening Agrifood Ecosystems in Ghana in Partnership with the Italian Private
System (AREA Africa) – AID 013210” aims to promote and invest in safe and sustainable agri-food
systems. It has been developed in close collaboration with the local government to strengthen the
capacity and resilience of Ghana’s agri-food ecosystem in response to national challenges such as food
insecurity and climate change.

A key component of this project is the Community Educational Support Scheme, funded by the Italian Government with a dedicated annual allocation of €10,000 per year for 3 years.

The CIHEAM Bari – Tertiary Educational Support Committee in Ghana is pleased to invite applications
from qualified tertiary students from Aveyime – Battor for the 2025/2026 Academic Year Educational
Support Scheme. The support is aimed at providing tuition fee assistance to brilliant, committed, but
financially needy students pursuing agriculture or science-related programmes in any recognized tertiary institution in Ghana.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:
1. Be currently enrolled in a recognized tertiary institution in Ghana.
2. Be in Level 100, 200, 300, or 400.
3. Be pursuing a programme in agriculture or any science-related field.
4. Maintain a minimum GPA/CWA of 2.0 throughout the scholarship period

Application Requirements

• For New Applicants (Level 100)
Applicants must attach the following:

1. Copy of admission letter.
2. Motivational letter (maximum of one page) explaining why they should be considered
for the support.
3. Copy of the school fees schedule for the academic year.

• For Continuing Students (Level 200, Level 300 & Level 400)
Applicants must attach the following:

1. Copy of the original admission letter (from when they first gained admission).
2. Copy of most recent academic transcript.
3. Copy of the school fees schedule for the academic year.

Selection Process

Shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview or further verification before the final selection.
The decision of the CIHEAM Bari – Tertiary Educational Support Committee shall be final.
