His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, former president and leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that, journalist association and it’s senior members, the clergy and other moral leaders are scared of speaking due to the oppressive and dictatorship regime being runned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The former president, in an open letter to the president, shared on his official Facebook, indicated that, the silence of the above mentioned individuals is a disturbing blueprint for our dear nation.
“It is even more sad that the Journalists Association and its senior members, many of our clergy and other moral leaders, scared because of the oppressive and dictatorial regime you are running, have remained quiet in the face of this disturbing development in our maturing democracy.”
“This is a dangerous blueprint you are fashioning for our dear nation and it must not be encouraged. Your actions as President have totally discredited your self-acquired accolade as a human rights lawyer and activist. Ghana has long emerged from the unfortunate past where journalists were cowed by incarceration and brutalization” the letter indicated.
His opened letter is coming at the back of the arrest, detained and charged of Bobie Ansah (radio presenter) for speaking and making allegations the wife of the president.
John Dramani Mahama further indicated that, he fears that if immediate actions are not taken to arrest this unfortunate trend, freedom of speech and a free media would not be counted as part of the legacies left behind by Nana Addo.
