The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT) at their press conference held in Tamale has reminded GES and MoE about the posting of all newly trained teachers. The association also asked for clarifications on the delay of the newly trained teachers.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends from the Media, good morning to one and all. It saddens my heart this morning to stand before you today on behalf of the Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT) to speak on the subject matter of the delay in our postings by Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education.
Let me begin by giving a background on who we are and how far we have come.
The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT) is a group of professionally trained teachers from the 46 public Colleges of Education who are currently unemployed.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends from the Media, automatic posting as it is widely known is norm for every batch or year group from the Colleges of Education however, we, the first batch of the newly introduced B.ED program have been ignored and left to our fate. It saddens us as pioneers of a new programme who have equally met all the requirements for postings to still be at home by this time (i.e., passing the license exams successfully and finishing our mandatory National Service).
This prompted us to release our first presser on the 21st of February, 2024. We followed it with a letter to the Ghana Education Service and copied the Ministry of Education on the 29th February, 2024. Sadly, there was no response, so we had to send a follow-up letter yet, it was same old story, silence!

This made us resort to another press release on the 15th of March, 2024. This time, there was a swift response and a formal meeting was held with the Ghana Education Service on the 22nd of March, 2024. We were assured the portal for our recruitment would be opened in April and we should give them that grace period. This information was subsequently conveyed to our members, however, shockingly to us, we are at the tail of April, yet there’s no single message or information concerning our posting. To say we are in a disarray and perturbed will be an understatement. For we never anticipated or dreamt of a day or time like this, especially being pioneers of a B.ED Program and the Basic Schools’ first ultimate teachers for the Common Core Program to sit at home doing nothing whilst learners need us in the classrooms we’re poised for.
Ladies and Gentlemen, for the purposes of more clarity, let me provide the data and timelines for the trends of recruitment of trained teachers from the Colleges of Education since 2018 (i.e first time National Service and License exams were introduced):

Portal opened – 1st December, 2019
2019 Year Group
Started National Service- January 2020
Portal opened- November, 2020
2020 Year Group
Started National Service- January 2021
Portal opened – December 2021

Ladies and Gentlemen, you will observe that no trained and licensed teacher was left “at home” or delayed recruitment after satisfying all the requirements for even a month. So the question we beg to ask is,
Why this time around? Especially when a new program has been implemented and millions of state resources have been used in training us to allow us to stay home and remain unemployed. How then do you measure the successes or otherwise of the New B.ED Program when the pioneers of the program are left home unemployed and to their fate?
What is keeping the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service from coming out to explain things to the public and this batch of teachers in particular?
These are questions left unanswered in our thoughts.
Ladies and Gentlemen, our situation has become dire in that even most of our members who out of frustration decided to apply to teach in private schools are not being recruited or accepted with the notion that government will employ them soon yet still nothing is done about our employment.
Also, as we speak, there is a looming danger in the education sector or fraternity if we are not employed immediately. For our juniors, the 2023 year group are equally done and are currently doing their National Service. So if we are not recruited immediately, there is a possibility of creation of backlogs in the sector which is novel or has never happened!
So Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends from the Media, in light of all these, in the interest of the Ghanaian learners who are anxiously waiting for their ultimate Common Core Teachers, and in the interest of the Ghanaian taxpayers whose taxes were used in training us, we want the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to do the needful and fulfill their duties by recruiting us by end of this month (April). We also expect that provisions should be made in advance for our colleagues with resit. Failure to do so, we shall be left with no other alternative than to hit the streets to express our displeasure.
