  2. Failure to clearly articulate and define the research problem or show the importance of addressing it.
  3. Inadequate coverage of recent and relevant literature, or over-reliance on individual or older sources.
  4. Failure to identify gaps in existing knowledge that are necessary to argue the need for the study.
  5. Failure to critically analyse the existing literature to show the strengths and weaknesses of existing studies.
  6. Insufficient detail in explaining the chosen research design and methodology and their appropriateness for the study.
  7. Selecting methods that are not feasible or appropriate for the study and its research questions and objectives.
  8. Lack of clarity in sampling procedures and data collection methods.
  9. Inadequate discussion of ethical considerations showing limited consideration for the privacy and protection of participants and/or respondents.
  10. Failure to address, identify and explain potential limitations of the study and how these will be overcome.
  11. Insufficient justification for why the research should be conducted.
  12. Lack of a realistic budget with clear cost estimates showing minimal consideration for the potential financial requirements of the project.
  13. A research schedule that is not feasible or lacks detail.
