Dr. Akwasi Amankwa Ampofo, a Ghanaian academic based in USA donates laptops to University of Ghana

Dr. Akwasi Amankwa Ampofo is a Ghanaian academic who is based in USA, donated 5 laptops to the University of Ghana to help support the Vice Chancellor’s One student One laptop project .

This project seeks to equip students and staffs of the University with affordable and free laptops through the University’s partnerships with Information Technology (IT) companies to accelerate teaching and learning in the University .

Strategies have been considered on the channels of obtaining these laptops for the University, eg. Provision of laptops at discounted prizes, Donation of free laptops, Provision of laptops through hire purchase agreements etc.

It was estimated that 6000 needy students would need laptops to facilitate them in their studies. Based on this estimate an amount of GH¢ 16,875,000 needs to be raised to address this issue.

The University has therefore called on alumni, philanthropist and co-operative bodies to contribute in cash towards the initiative.
