ECG blows over ¢219 million on procurement without recourse to PPA

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has spent an amount of GH¢ 219,350,277.98 on items procured without recourse to the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).

This, according to the Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu formed part of GH¢306,769,261 expenditure as Procurement Irregularities for the 2021 year ending.

The Auditor-General explained that, these irregularities occurred as a result of Managements’ non-compliance with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) as amended.

“Out of the total irregularities, GH¢ 219,350,277.98 represented items procured without recourse to the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) by the Electricity Company of Ghana.” The report said.

Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu once again recommended that Managements of the various Institutions should undertake procurement transactions strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act as amended.
