The Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has made his first ever public statement on the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
In a statement backing the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Minister said, before Dr. Eric Nkansah’s appointment, he worked as the Director in charge of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education.
Dr. Adutwum shared his expectations and charged the newly appointed Director-General’s administration to prioritize the welfare of GES employees as a key means to improve education outcomes in the country.
The Minister said this after he received Dr. Eric Nkansah and some Directors in his office on Monday, 24th October, 2022.
According to Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, this visit marked Dr. Nkansah’s first official visit and meeting with the Ministry of Education since his appointment by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
BACKGROUND
Dr. Eric Nkansah, a Senior Lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University has been appointed as the acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Dr. Eric Nkansah was appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) on Wednesday, 19th October, 2022.
President Akufo-Addo made the appointments pursuant to Section 19 (1), (2) (a) and (b) of the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, 2020 (Act 1049).
In a letter signed by Nana Bediatuo Asante, the Secretary to the President said, Dr. Eric Nkansah has been appointed to act as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (the “Service”) pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the Governing Council of the Service, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
The letter further said, Dr. Eric Nkansah’s appointment is effective 19th October, 2022.
Dr. Eric Nkansah is directed by the office of the President to kindly indicate his acceptance or otherwise of this appointment, within 14 days of receipt of this letter.
