Eligibility requirements for recruitment/posting into Ghana Education Service

The Ministry of Education (MoE) in a joint meeting with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the National Teaching Council (NTC), leaders of teacher unions and other stakeholders in Education have had series of engagements in the past to review the posting/recruitment criteria of trained teachers into the Service.
Though some stakeholders including teachers unions and student leaders of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) among others have expressed reservations, the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service and National Teaching Council have announced new criteria for recruitment into the Ghana Education Service.

These new eligibility requirement announced by GES and MoE were effective during the 2019 recruitment of the 2018 batch of trained teachers from the forty-six (46) Accredited Public Colleges of Education, whose appointment into the Ghana Education Service was effective on 1st December, 2019.
Same eligibility requirements were used to employed some trained teachers into the Ghana Education Service in 2020 at all levels.
According to the new agreement, for one to be eligible for recruitment into the Ghana Education Service (GES), applicants must have;
- completed any Tertiary Educational Institution in Ghana without any outstanding referral.

2. completed the one year mandatory National Service to the nation. According to Ministry of Education and Ghana Education, the National Service Period of trained teachers shall be considered as part of the one-year post-graduation training period of all teachers.
3. written and passed all the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE). With this, all newly graduated teachers must avail themselves of the opportunity of the licensure examination as ‘LICENCED TEACHERS” to enable them secure employment as teachers.

4. declared the intention to be employed by the Ghana Education Service through application for recruitment and must be available to work where his/her services are needed.
As it stance now, the above are the only edibility requirements for one to secure employment under the Ghana Education Service (GES) as a graduate teacher.
