Senegal has inaugurated a magnificent new stadium, Stade Olympique de Diamniadio, with a capacity of 50,000 on 22nd February, 2022.
Several African heads of State were present for the inauguration of the new made for World Cups’ soccer stadium.
It is part of a new city, which has since seen an Express railway built to connect it to Dakar.

Thousands of Senegalese gathered for the inauguration of the stadium aimed at making the country Africa’s go-to venue for international events.
Diamniadio Olympic Stadium was named after their former President Abdoulaye Wade.
Senegal has invited a number of former African football legends, heads of government and dignitaries to its national stadiums inauguration cum AFCON2021 trophy presentation.

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and Super Eagles Austin Okocha, Samuel Eto’o, Patrick Mboma, Yaya Toure, Anthony Baffoe, Diedier Drogba, El Hadj Diouf, Omar Daf, Aliou Cissé, Asamoah Gyan including a ronowned football Journalist Aliou Goloko among others were also in attendance for the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed stadium.
The construction of the Diamniadio Olympic Stadium, costing an estimated €238 million, began in February 2020 and was finally completed late last year. The 50,000 capacity multi-sports complex will host the Summer Youth Olympics in 2026.
