Mr. Kofi Amoabeng, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the now-defunct UT Bank and UT Holdings backs Mahama and labels the NPP government disappointing. He expressed disappointment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, stating that they have fallen short of the high expectations many had when they came into power in 2016.

Despite widespread hope that the NPP would be a better alternative to the previous NDC government, Amoabeng believes they have proven to be worse.

Acknowledging the initial optimism, Amoabeng stated, “I think one thing most Ghanaians say, and I agree with them, is that we had high hopes for the NPP.” He emphasized that the disillusionment with the NDC government led many to support the NPP, but the current government’s performance has not lived up to expectations.

According to Amoabeng, the problems faced during the NDC era prompted the belief that the NPP would bring positive change. However, in his view, the NPP has demonstrated that it is not a better alternative and, in fact, maybe worse.

Looking ahead to the 2024 General Elections, Amoabeng is throwing his support behind John Dramani Mahama, the former President and NDC flagbearer. He believes that Mahama, having held the position before, is well-equipped to lead the country effectively. Amoabeng stated, “I think it’s John Mahama; he has been in the position before, and therefore when he comes back, he knows the path to tread. He knows who to trust and people not to trust. I think John Mahama will win 2024.”

Amoabeng’s endorsement of Mahama is based on the belief that a leader with previous presidential experience can navigate the challenges more effectively. As Ghana has experimented with various forms of governance, Amoabeng sees Mahama as someone who understands the intricacies of leadership and can make informed decisions for the benefit of the country.
