The chiefs and people of the Gbi Traditional Area in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region have outdoored a new Paramount Chief as a grand event at Hohoe, the traditional and administrative capital.
The new King, Togbega Gabusu VII replaces his successor and maternal Uncle who was laid to rest in November, 2021 after reigning for twenty nine (29) years as the sixth (6th) King of the Gbi State.
The Gbi Paramountcy at Hohoe including its adjoining streets were filled to capacity with all manner of people and traditional activities during the outdooring of Togbega Gabusu VII known in private life as Seth Kodzo Agbesinyale.
The occasion was also used to showcase the rich cultural values and traditions of the chiefs and people of the Gbi Traditional Area whose brothers and sisters also domicile in the Peki Traditional Area in the South Dayi district of the Volta Region.
Togbega Gabusu VII holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Sunderland in Great Britain and currently holds the position of Senior Investment Officer at the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation. He also has a Diploma Certificate in Management, Banking and Financial Services from the Leister University in the United Kingdom. Togbega Gabusu also holds a Level 1 Chartered Institute of Marketing certificate from the University of Professional Studies, Legon, Accra as well as the Level 2 Certificate from London.
He is an old student of the Awudome Senior High School at Awudome Tsito in the Ho West district and earlier had his basic school education at Hohoe.
He hails from the Torkorni Clan from Gbi-Hohoe as its Chief and also doubles as the Dufia of Hohoe, the administrative and traditional capital of the Gbi State. Togbega Gabusu VII has been in customary confinement for eight (8) days preceding his outdooring ceremony as the seventh (7th) Pararount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area.
Speaking to our newsteam in an interview, the Chief of Gbi Wegbe and the Leftwing King of the Gbi Traditional Area, Togbe Keh XII gave a background to the current event. According to him, following the performance of the funeral rites of the late Togbega Gabusu VI between December 7 and 15, 2021 at Hohoe, the way was paved for the search and selection of a new chief, a development which has culminated in the outdooring event.
The new King, Togbega Gabusu VII was grateful to the Kingmakers for the honour done him. According to him, the name Gabusu places a big responsibility on him. He therefore called on all and sundry to support him to achieve his vision for the people.
He stressed the need for unity amongst the rank and file of all Gbis, adding that it is the ony way to bring the needed development to the traditional area. He pledged to serve the people with humility so as to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the people.
The Paramount Chief of the Peki Traditional Area, Deiga Kwadzodei IV lauded the chiefs and people of the Gbi State for a peaceful royal transition process and stressed the need for all the Gbi citizens to support Togbega Gabusu VII to succeed.
He reminded his new counterpart of the great task ahead of him and urged him to pursue the path of unity and development for the total growth of the traditional area.
The commemoration of the outdooring event of Togbegas Gabusu VII was witnessed by a large number of dignitaries including the citizenry, chiefs and queenmothers from all walks of life. Also present was government’s delegation led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Hohoe, Hon. Nobel Awume.
