The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has disclosed names of some District and Municipal Directorates under the Ghana Education Service (GES) that are compelling and frustrating teachers to attend fee-paying Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshop.
According to the Association, the GES Directorates are forcing teachers to attend compulsory Continuous Professional Development (CPD) planned by a supposed National Teaching Council (NTC) Service Providers.
The General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Mr. Thomas Tanko Musah added that, a group calling itself Positive Future Educational Consult Ltd (PFEC), which claims to be experts in Teacher Education, Continuous Professional Development and Educational Research has entered into agreement with GES officials and NTC to force teachers attend a compulsory fee-paying workshop.
The Association, in a letter sent to the office of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa said, reports available confirmed that three (3) District/Municipal Directorates are compelling the teachers to attend the workshop.
The list of Directorates disclosed by GNAT in the said act includes:
1. Agona West District Education Directorate in the Central Region of Ghana.
2. Ketu South Municipal Education Directorate in the Volta Region of Ghana.
3. Atwima Nwabiagya North District Education Directorate in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Information available to Coverghana.com.gh confirmed that, some of the District Directorates have directed the teachers to pay compulsory whooping amount of GH¢75.00 per head for the workshop.
It is also reported that, other District, Municipal and Metropolitan Directorates of GES are planning same workshop for GES staff within their jurisdiction. They are yet to officially communicate the final schedules for their workshop.
