GES reacts to alleged news of teacher trainee who impregnated 24 students, a Headmistress and 4 female teachers

The Public Relations Unit of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Education Directorate has issued an immediate statement regarding the alleged news of teacher trainee on teaching practice who has reportedly impregnated 24 girls, Headmistress, and four (4) female teachers in the Asokore Mampong Municipal in Ashanti Region.

According to the Municipal Education Directorate, earlier in the hours of Thursday 2nd June, 2022, a Ghanaian-based blog named Voltawebpage.com published a news through their online portal that a teacher trainee on teaching practice impregnated 24 girls, Headmistress, and four (4) female teachers.

Netizens lambasted the noble profession due to the news published. Others defended to an extent but bad news travels faster than the good therefore it became difficult to defend since no authority has interfered.

However, the affected Municipality have issued a release after 24 hours (June 3rd, 2022) to clarify the dent splash from Voltawebpage.com.

According to the release, the attention of Asokore Mampong Municipal Education Directorate has been drawn to a publication claiming that a teacher trainee during his internship in one of the M/A schools under the Education Directorate has impregnated 24 school girls, four (4) female teachers, and the headmistress of the alleged school.

The Asokore Mampong Municipal Education Directorate explained in the release that the publication is totally false and must be disregarded. The Directorate since its inception, has not engaged Colleges of Education to post teacher trainees into any of their schools.

Secondly, the Directorate said, teacher trainees are posted within their home-regions. Trainees are posted to schools in districts within their regions of studies and are mostly sent to schools that lack trained teachers. Asokore Mampong does not have such challenge.

Explaining further, the Public Relations Unit clarified that there are eight (8) M/A schools under the Asokore Mampong Education Directorate, all of these schools are headed by males except Aboabo M/A JHS which is headed by a female who is far advance in age and is due retirement in 2023.

Again, the Directorate stated that, they have records to prove the reduction of teenage pregnancy in their schools. The Girls’ Education unit has in the past three (3) years recorded incredibly lower number of pregnant school girls in the schools in their Municipality.

Finally, the Municipal said as part of their open policy, the Asokore Mampong Education Directorate is ever ready to provide further information and clarification on this and related matters.

They admonished the media to contact them for verification or confirm issues regarding education in the municipality at any time.
