GES recruitment: Opening a portal is one thing; employment is another

A former National Executive Officer of the Teacher Trainees’ Associated of Ghana (TTAG), Mr. Ekow Djan says opening an online portal to accept applications for recruitment is one thing, and employment is another.

In a statement responding to the joy and happiness expressed by the 2019 batch of trained teachers from the forty-six (46) Accredited Public Colleges of Education, in connection with a press release issued by the Ghana Education Service to accept applications for recruitment, Mr. Ekow Djan noted that on July 17, 2020, the Ghana Education Service opened the recruitment portal for 2017 & 2018 Qualified Teachers to apply. Fast forward in September, 2020, the over 2,000 Teachers are yet to be employed.

According to the former National deputy secretary of TTAG, the Ghana Education Service has again opened the recruitment portal for the entire 2019 batch of newly trained teachers numbering over 16000 while the earlier applicants remain unemployed.

Mr. Ekow said, though he is personally not against the opening of an online portal for recruitment is trained teachers, he wish the Ghana Education Service would have employed the backlogs of 2017 and 2018 trained teachers from the Colleges of Education before the current exercise. According to him, the action of GES is a clear attempt to play on the innocent graduate teachers in the run up to the December, 2020 elections. “I do not want to preempt that someone somewhere is seeking to play on the intelligence of these innocent graduate teachers for any form of gimmicks.” He explained.

“Asking Trained teachers to apply, and leaving out some 2000 Qualified teachers in 2018 only comes to confirm the cancellation of automatic postings of teachers hence the need to bring it back!” He said.

BACKGROUND

The government of Ghana through Ghana Education Service has began the recruitment of the 2019 trained teachers from the Accredited Public Colleges of Education.

In a statement issued by the Director of Human Resource and Management Division Adjoa Van Vicker (Mrs), the Ghana Education Service is requesting for applications from qualified trained
teachers who completed College of Education in 2019 to be considered for recruitment.

Criteria for by GES for recruitment

Applicants MUST meet all of these requirements:

1. Completed college of education in 2019 and have no outstanding exams or referrals

2. Completed the mandatory national service

3. Passed the Ghana Teacher Licensure Exams

4. Will be ready to work wherever services are needed.

Interested applicants are therefore directed to access the GES Official web site www.gespromotions.gov.gh to complete an online application form and upload all valid certificates on or before October 30h, 2020.

NOTE: This recruitment is restricted to only applicants who have completed college of education in 2019.
