The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists has declared a nationwide indefinite strike action.

This strike was announced by the leadership of the Association in solidarity with Medical Laboratory Scientists in Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) effective from Thursday, 27th May, 2021.

In a statement Intercepted by Coverghana.com.gh, members of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists are directed to lay down their tools following the Association’s collective resolution to withdraw laboratory services as part of their industrial action.

In the recent times, the leadership of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists locks horns with management of Konfo Anokye Teaching Hospital over the posting of two laboratory physician to the haematology unit of the laboratory department. This unresolve issues, according to the Association necessitated their actions.

The Volta Regional Branch and the Greater Accra Regional Branch of Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists among others have since issued official notices calling on its members to embark on an indefinite strike in solidarity with their colleagues from KATH.

“As a next line of action, all members in the Greater Accra regional branch are hereby directed that there shall be a TOTAL SHUT DOWN of Medical Laboratory Services and Blood Banking Services in the region effective from Thursday 27th May, 2021 in solidarity with the action of the Komfo Anokye Chapter of GAMLS.” The statement said.

Manasseh A. Nyarkoh, the Greater Accra Regional Secretary in a statement said, the leadership of the Association further called on Medical Laboratory professionals in the Region to strictly adhere to this directive and hold themselves in readiness for the next line of action.

In another press statement, the Volta Regional Chairman of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists Kenneth Owusu Agyemang has re-entreated all members to remain resolute in these trying times.

Further information available suggests that, Northern, Ashanti, Bono, Western Regional Secretariats of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists have also announced the indefinite strike action after the announcement of the Volta and Greater Accra Regional Branches.
