Ghana Revenue Authority grants property rate exemption to churches, cemeteries, and schools

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has recently announced that churches, cemeteries, schools, and other establishments registered with the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) will be exempt from paying property rates.
Under the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936), all individuals and corporate entities who own immovable properties are required to pay property rates to the MMDAs, with no exceptions.
However, the GRA has clarified that certain categories of properties are exempted from this obligation, in line with the provisions of the Act.
GRA stated in the announcement that Property rate IS NOT the same as Basic rate.
