Global Skills Partnership: Ghanaian youths invited to train in Germany’s construction sector

Young Ghanaian youths have been invited to train in Germany’s construction sector through a Dual Vocational training programme.

As part of the Partnership for Vocational Training between Ghana and Germany, GIZ* is offering young people from Ghana the opportunity to take the following dual vocational training** in Germany:

Building and public works

(A) Building Construction Professional (including but not limited to: Mason, Concrete and Reinforced Concrete
Constructor)

(B) Civil engineering professional (including but not limited to: road builder, pipeline builder)

Dual Vocational training in Germany selection period

Between November 2024 and May 2025, the selected candidates will benefit from full-time language and intercultural preparation in Ghana for around 7 months before starting their apprenticeship in Germany.

The preparation will include German language courses to B1 level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) as well as preparation for everyday life and integration into a German company.

Important notice to participants/applicants

Participants must be prepared to devote themselves fully to the preparation modules, five (5) days a week in Accra from November 2024 to July 2025.

Only candidates shortlisted on the basis of their applications will be invited to selection interviews.

Starting date for 2025 Dual Vocational training in Germany

The dual vocational training ** in Germany will start at the beginning of August 2025 and will last a minimum of two (2) years and a maximum of three (3) years for participants who wish
to specialise in the 3rd year.

Employment/Training benefits

In Germany, dual vocational training prepares apprentices for highly-skilled, technical occupations. Most training companies are located in the west of Germany, in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Cost of apprenticeship trip and Allocated allowance

The costs of language and intercultural preparation, as well as the cost of the apprenticeship trip, will be financed by the pilot project. During the apprenticeship period in Germany, apprentices will receive an apprenticeship allowance from their training company in accordance with German apprenticeship regulations. The monthly allowance covers only the basic costs of living in Germany and increases each year of the training.

Candidate’s Profile

• Candidate MUST be between 20 and 27 years old

• Nationality: MUST be a Ghanaian

• Level of education: NC II, Diploma, HND, Degree

• Good level of English

• Clean criminal record

Needed documents for application/Application files

• A copy of Biometric Birth Certificate

• A copy of Vocational Certificate (e.g. NC II, Diploma, HND, BSc. etc.)

• A Curriculum Vitae

• A motivation letter

• Legalised copies of certificates of training or work experience in the construction sector (optional)
