GNAT directs CAGD to reverse dues arrears and credit same to affected teachers

Leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has directed the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to reverse dues arrears in 2021 and credit same to affected teachers.

Earlier, a section of teachers (GNAT members) have expressed worry over deduction of unexpected GNAT dues from their salary by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department.

In a statement issued by Isaac Baah, Salaries and Conditions of Service said, the attention of the Association has been drawn to deductions from some of their members between January, 2021 and June, 2022.

According to the Association, their checks from the Controller and Accountants General’s Department indicates that this was because of the 2021 increment of the 4% base pay.

“It must be placed on record that the dues is increase automatically upon a written letter to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department. However, in 2021 we did not write to the Controller and Accountants General’s Department to increase the GNAT dues.”

The Association has therefore urge the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to reverse this dues arrears in 2021 with immediate effect and credit same to all the affected members of GNAT.
