Government approves 11 rates of allowances for UTAG

The Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Finance has approved rates of allowances for the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).
According to the information available to us, the Ministry of Finance in letter referenced BD/CMU/08/21/SAL.I and dated August 6, 2021 has communicated approval to rates of allowances negotiated so far between the Government and the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).

In a letter, the Director-General of Ghana Tertiary Education Commission Professor Mohammed Salifu said, the effective date for implementation of the allowances is August 1, 2021.

He further said, for Universities on Integrated Payroll Processing Department (IPPD), payment will be effected by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Finance madam Abena Osei-Asare, in a letter to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission said, the decision to implement the rates of allowances for the University Teachers Association of Ghana emanates from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission’s letter number FWSC/D/SRC.3/VOL.26/37 and dated 3rd January, 2021 on the subject matter.

According to her, all other allowances including those payable using Internally Generated Funds are to remain on the current rates until discussion on the matter are concluded.
In view of this, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission is directed to ensure that, all public universities comply with the new rates.
