Ho: Agotime-Ziope MP calls on IGP to probe suspected police murder of his constituent

Charles Agbeve, the Member of Parliament representing the Agotime-Ziope Constituency in the Volta Region, has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Dampare, to promptly initiate an inquiry into a suspected instance of police brutality which resulted in the death of a man believed to be in his thirties.
The deceased individual, Felix Azibodzi, was apprehended by the authorities on allegations of involvement in a car-snatching incident in Ho, having fallen into an investigative trap.
As per accounts from Azibodzi’s family, he had been offered a sum of GH¢6,000 to return the stolen vehicle before being apprehended.
It is reported that Azibodzi had been cooperating with the ongoing investigations until he suddenly fell ill. He was subsequently hospitalized but tragically passed away shortly thereafter.
Agbeve, aligned with the sentiments of the deceased’s family, has voiced suspicions about potential foul play in this case.
He advocates for the suspension of funeral proceedings until a comprehensive investigation is conducted and the truth is unveiled.
In an interview with Citi News, Agbeve emphasized the unsettling circumstances surrounding the case, stating, “The sequence of events is perplexing; a man who was in a different town suddenly meets his demise after being in police custody.
This points to possible police brutality and a distressing loss of life. It is a narrative that is hard to accept.”
The MP also raised concerns regarding the hasty attempts to expedite the burial process by the police, without adhering to the proper protocols.
He has been apprised of the findings of a physical examination conducted on Azibodzi’s body, which revealed alarming injuries such as a perforated right eyeball, a twisted leg, broken front teeth, swollen bones in both legs, blood clots, and numerous wounds.
He also contends that these findings indicate a potential case of murder and torture.
Urging the IGP to intervene, Agbeve stated that a thorough post-mortem examination is necessary to ascertain the exact cause of death.
This information, once acquired, should be handed over to the IGP to aid in the pursuit of justice and the eradication of misconduct within the police force.
The MP for Agotime-Ziope Constituency urged Azibodzi’s family not to succumb to pressure and hasten the burial process until the true circumstances surrounding his death are fully revealed.
In his words, “Irrespective of the alleged wrongdoing, the extreme brutality inflicted upon him is unjustifiable. This appalling incident must not be tolerated under any circumstances within our nation.”
Agbeve’s stance aligns with the family’s plea for a thorough investigation and justice in the wake of this distressing incident.
