Member of Parliament for Central Tongu Constituency Honourable Gabby Alexander Hottordze’s sponsored eye surgeries commence today, Monday, 22nd August, 2022.
The exercise which is scheduled for four (4) days at the Adidome District Hospital, Adidome has booked a total of three hundred and sixteen (316) critical cases for surgical operations.
According to the MP, the exercise is sponsored by him in partnership with Lifetime Wells Vision – a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and the Friends Eye Centre an Eye Clinic
He explained that, earlier, the doctors have screened eyes for a total of one thousand, eight hundred and fifteen (1,815) people from 22nd July, 2022 to 25th July, 2022.
Also, a total of 1,653 medications were dispensed and 599 eye glasses have been issued to individuals with mild cases.
Speaking to the Project Coordinator Mr. Kofi Lawson, he said, the screening exercises were organized in five (5) different zones in the Central Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region. The zones are Adidome, Asiekpe, Sasekpe, Mafi-Dove, and Bakpa-Avedo zones
According to him, some of the surgeries involve Congenital Bilateral cataract.
He noted that, the exercise is undertaken to minimize and to avoid preventable blindness among the people through free treatment, issue of glasses and surgeries.
Mr. Kofi Lawson advises the public to do regular eye checkups to avoid blindness.
