The minister in charge of Communication and Digitalization Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful says all sim cards must be re-registered from June 2020.

According to her, all SIM cards and SIM enabled devices must be re-registered starting from June 2021 through to December, 2021 and that all sim cards not re-registered after the stipulated period will be blocked.

She explained that, it has become necessary for all sim cards in the country to be re-registered to help  down on cyber crime.

It has become imperative that we clamp down on cyber criminals hiding behind the anonymity of digital systems to commit antisocial acts, and the Sim re-registration exercise is a key part of that campaign.

All SIM cards and SIM enabled devices would be re-registered from June and end in December. All unregistered sims will be blocked.

The Minister further added that her ministry is working to improve access to connectivity across the country with rural telephony and digital inclusion projects which will see the construction of 2,016 solar powered cell sites in unserved and underserved rural communities.
