I am not affiliated with any political party; I’ve quit politics to create lasting change for the youth -Asamoah Gyan discloses after serving NPP

The former Black Star captain, Asamoah Gyan, widely known as Baby Jet, has stated his stand for politics. Baby Jet made it crystal clear through his foundation, Asamoah Gyan Foundation, on September 11, 2024, that he is not affiliated with any political party. Adding, the Ghanaian football legend said he has quit politics to create lasting change for the youth.

This official update from Asamoah Gyan came after he served on the campaign team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The majority of Ghanaians were shocked after Asamoah Gyan announced his “breaking of ties” with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after serving as the Chairman of the Sports Committee of the NPP’s current manifesto and appeared on a campaign platform at Kwahu and Akropong to campaign for the current Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the party.

Clearing the air, he stated categorically that he does not belong to any political party and will not be part of any political activities because he can’t betray the football fraternity.

“Sports saved me and gave me purpose”; “I believe sports can unite and inspire us in powerful ways. Together, we can harness that power to uplift the next generation and create a brighter future for Ghana and Africa”, Asamoah Gyan stated in his formal declaration about doing political work and the way forward.

He vowed to push the youth to define their path and make a good living out of it for themselves, family, the nation, and the entire continent, Of Africa.

“This is about our children, our communities, and our continent. Together, with the support of international organizations, royal families, and philanthropic partners, we can create lasting change that empowers our youth to build the future they deserve.”

Sports saved me and gave me purpose. Its power goes beyond winning or losing-it’s about overcoming setbacks, pushing through challenges, and believing in dreams. I want every young person, no matter their background, to have that same opportunity to realize their greatness.

Through the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, the Moah Green Foundation, and the All- Regional Games, we will build sports academies, training centers, and mentorship programs that nurture young talent in all sports. More than that, we’ll emphasize education, character, and life skills to prepare our youth for success beyond the field.
