James Gyake Quayson wins Assin North By-election: Certified Results

James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won the by-election in Assin North, according to official results released by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) on Tuesday.
James Gyakye Quayson secured 17,245 (57.56%) of the total valid votes cast, beating Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who has 12,630 (42.15%) voteĀ and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) who also had 87 (0,29%) to reclaim the seat.
The margin of Quayson’s victory, compared to the 2020 election, is over 1,300 votes. In that election, he polled 17,498 votes to beat NPP’s Abena Durowaa Mensah, who secured 14,193 votes.
Quayson, who was declared invalidly elected in 2020 by a Supreme Court judgement, will now return to take his seat in Parliament.
The by-election was held following a court ruling that nullified his victory in the 2020 election due to dual citizenship.
