John Dumelo hints on expanding agricultural ventures to include cannabis cultivation

Ghanaian celebrity John Dumelo, known for his multifaceted career, has revealed plans to broaden his agricultural endeavors by venturing into cannabis cultivation.

Dumelo, who has already achieved success in cultivating various crops such as ginger, tubers, grains, and poultry farming, recognizes the potential of cannabis as a valuable addition to his portfolio.

His decision comes in light of the recent passing of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) Bill, 2023, which was approved by Parliament on July 12, and has now become law.

Under this new legislation, the Ministry of Interior is authorized to issue licenses for the cultivation of cannabis, as long as the THC content does not exceed 0.3% on dry weight. This authorization is specifically granted for industrial or medicinal purposes.

The renowned Ghanaian actor and politician expressed his excitement about this development, viewing it as a significant moment in Ghana’s history. He warmly welcomes the opportunity to venture into cannabis cultivation, acknowledging its potential value across various sectors.

“I am thrilled that Parliament has passed the Narcotics Control Commission Amendment Bill 2023, which aims to decriminalize the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal and industrial purposes,” Dumelo shared.

The NACOC Bill, 2023, received widespread support from key stakeholders, including the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ghana Medical Association, and the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen.
