Julio César Uras Acosta, aka “El Culichi,” is a Mexican professional baseball pitcher for the Major League Baseball (MLB) Los Angeles Dodgers. He signed with the Dodgers in 2012 and made his MLB debut in 2016. Uras led the National League in victories and earned run average in 2021 and 2022, respectively. In both 2021 and 2022, he was chosen to the All-MLB Second Team.
In his early adolescence, he was a member of Mexico’s national youth squad. Uras met Los Angeles Dodgers scout Mike Brito, who had originally scouted Fernando Valenzuela in the late 1970s when he was 14 years old. The Dodgers discovered Uras, then 15, during a showcase in Oaxaca in June 2012, on the same scouting trip to Mexico that resulted in the signing of Yasiel Puig. On August 12, his 16th birthday, the Dodgers signed him. The Dodgers paid a signing bonus of $450,000 to the Diablos Rojos del México of the Mexican League.
