Krachi East NADMO, Fire Service Embark on Fuel Station Safety Sensitization and Inspection Exercise
As part of efforts to strengthen public safety and prevent disasters within the Krachi East Municipality, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), in close collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has carried out a comprehensive fuel station safety sensitization and inspection exercise across all fuel stations in the municipality.
The exercise forms part of NADMO’s core mandate to reduce disaster risks, protect lives, and enhance preparedness in high-risk environments. Fuel stations, due to the highly flammable nature of petroleum products, are classified as critical facilities requiring strict compliance with fire safety standards. The inspection was therefore designed to ensure that operators adhere to regulatory guidelines and maintain the highest safety practices.
According to officials, the exercise focused on assessing the level of compliance with fire safety protocols, evaluating the availability and functionality of firefighting equipment, and engaging fuel station workers on best practices in fire prevention, safe fuel handling, and emergency response measures.
Speaking during the exercise, the Municipal NADMO Director, Mr. Dzunu Jonathan emphasized that disaster prevention remains his foremost priority. He noted that regular monitoring and proactive safety education are essential to strengthening community resilience and reducing disaster risks.
“My priority is disaster prevention rather than disaster management. This is why we must frequently embark on these exercises to keep all stakeholders on high alert about their roles in building a resilient and disaster-free municipality,” Mr. Dzunu stated.
He further indicated that all observations made during the inspection would be compiled and presented to the appropriate authorities for attention and necessary action. He expressed gratitude to the Krachi East Municipal Assembly and the Ghana National Fire Service for their continued cooperation and support in ensuring safety in the municipality.
The sensitization and inspection exercise is expected to contribute significantly to improving safety standards, minimizing potential fire outbreaks, and fostering a culture of preparedness among fuel station operators and attendants in Krachi East.
