Lennox Lewis, born on September 2, 1965, in London, England was the first British Boxer to hold the undisputed heavyweight world championship since Bob Fitzsimmons held the title in 1899. Lewis was born to Jamaican parents. He spent his early childhood in England, after which he moved with his mother to Canada. He was an athlete in school who excelled in several sports but soon diverted to focus on boxing where he later developed into one of Canada’s most prominent fighters. During the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, Lewis beat American Riddick Bowe to earn a gold medal in the superheavyweight division. In 1989, Lewis went back to his native England where he pursued his professional career.

He emerged the winner in his first 22 professional fights and earned a title bout with Bowe, who later became the heavyweight champion. He faced a lot of fighters later on, and most of the time emerged as the winner. Lewis was named a Member of Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1999 and a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2002. Lewis announced his retirement from boxing in the year 2004 with a record of 41 wins, (32 by knockouts), 2 losses, and 1 draw. In 2009, He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
