Ministry of Education Allocates GH¢241 million for teacher trainee allowances and GH¢32 million for book and research allowance

Ministry of Education (MoE) disclosed that the government of Ghana has allocated GH¢241 million for teacher trainee allowances and GH¢32 million for book and research allowance

The information was let out by Professor Yara Dzakadzie, the Director of Tertiary Education at the Ministry at the 13th congregation of the Koforidua Asokore SDA Training College.

He made this revelation during a speech on behalf of the Sector Minister at the congregation.

Disclosing, he said a total of GH¢241 million has been released by the government for the payment of allowances to teacher trainees across the country. He explained that the move is aimed at ensuring the smooth running of Colleges of Education (CoE) and providing the best education for students pursuing teaching careers.

Additionally, he said GH¢32 million has been set aside to pay the first batch of book and research allowances to eligible senior members of public tertiary institutions throughout Ghana. He added that the financial support is intended to bolster research activities and enhance academic pursuits among the faculty.

Professor Yara Dzakadzie emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the educational sector and supporting the growth and development of future educators. The timely release of these funds underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring that colleges of education receive the necessary resources to operate efficiently.

During the congregation ceremony, the Principal of Koforidua Asokore SDA Training College, Dr. Cecelia Ofosua Odame highlighted several challenges affecting teaching and learning in the institution. These challenges encompassed issues related to laboratories, lecturer halls, and staff accommodation.

Dr. Odame made a heartfelt appeal to the government, alumni, and the public to extend their support to address these pressing challenges.

Among the pressing concerns were the lack of adequate transportation for students and the deterioration of equipment in the science laboratory, hindering practical teaching, and learning activities.

The call for assistance echoes the urgency of providing conducive environments for effective teaching and nurturing future educators in the country.

The Ministry of Education acknowledges these challenges and promised to work diligently to address them to elevate the quality of education in Ghana. The commitment to investing in the education sector remains a top priority for the government, as it recognizes that a strong education system is vital for the overall growth and development of the nation.
